Oh. My. Word. This book will emotionally destroy you. I must admit I don't cry while reading often... at least not every book. Anyways, this book made me cry on multiple occasions. It was so moving & impactful. There are a lot of trigger warnings, which are listen on the title page, so please check them before reading.
This novel follows three main characters; Noor, Salahudin (Noor's best friend) and Misbah (Salahudin's mother) and takes place in two time periods. Noor & Salahudin's POV's are present day. Whereas Misbah's POV starts when she is a teenager and travels through to present day.
This incredible book tackles some very strong and important conversations while sharing a the story of a strong friendship and the ups and downs we go through in our lives. Of course, because the main characters do not have light skin, there are unfortunately additional challenges they face. This books like a true story rather than a fictional contemporary story. I would love for the author to write a novella in the future, featuring a story about where the main characters are now.
If this book isn't on your TBR yet it need's to be added right now! This will for sure be one of my top books of 2022. It was a solid 10/10.
