SDCC Book Haul

Wow. I received 43 ARCs & 8 FCs (and 2 audiobooks) for free at San Diego Comic Con a few weeks ago and I finally had the time to go through them all. To be honest I will not be keeping them all. So, let's go through them and see which ones I am most excited for, which ones sounds interesting that I will likely be keeping, which ones that I am not sure if I'll keep, and which ones I will be trading or gifting away. I will also mention, I purchased 3 books (and 2 graphic novels) and SDCC which I will include at the bottom of this list bas well.

The ones I'm most excited for:

  • Batman: Resurrection by John Jackson Miller (ARC) - I LOVE John's work and when I found out he was publishing a Batman novel, I was extremely excited and of course added it to my TBR. Let's be honest, I am also a huge fan of Batman so regardless of who the author was I would have picked it up, but the fact that John Jackson Miller wrote it? Perfection!

  • It Will Only Hurt for a Moment by Delilah S. Dawson (ARC) - I used to say I'm not a fan of horror and that's not entirely true. I do enjoy horror I just don't enjoy certain elements of horror that are used at times, specifically when it comes to the supernatural. What helped me to realize that I do, in fact, enjoy horror novels was a series called Reality Bleeds. It's a Sci-Fi Horror series that I devoured in a week. Since then, I am always on the lookout for new horror titles to add to my TBR. That combined with the fact that I have loved Delilah's work - at least the novel's I have read so far - I knew I needed to pick this one up and add it to my TBR.

  • Blood Over Bright Haven by M. L. Wong (ARC) - M. L. Wong is the author of The Sword of Kaigen which I read last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. So much that I purchased the special edition that was created by Wraithmarked and now proudly own two copies. I first heard about this title a couple weeks ago and was surprised to find it was originally indie published, similar to that of The Sword of Kaigen, and will now be trad published. I am very excited to dive in and see what this one is about.

  • Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman (ARC) - This series is AMAZING. I devoured all 5 books that were published earlier this year and am eagerly awaiting the next in the series. This series was published undependably and will now be trad published. Unfortunately, the indie covers are no longer available for books 1-3 but they are for 4-6. What sucks is I own the indie covers of books 2 & 4-6, so I am missing (and searching for) book 1 & 3. Anyways, I am excited to add the ARC of book 1 to my collection.

  • Alien Clay by Adrian Tchaikovsky (ARC) - What surprised me about Orbit Books having ARCs of this title is that I already own multiple finished copies of it. I have the Broken Binding edition, Goldsboro edition, and Waterstones edition. What do they all have in common? They are all from the UK. So, the US edition has not yet been published. Plus, the cover is completely different for the US edition compared to the UK edition. Even with owning 3 copies, now 4, and it being one of my most anticipated reads of the year, I have yet to start it.

  • Buried Deep & Other Stories by Naomi Novik (ARC) - I have loved everything I've read by Naomi Novik so far and I don't think this will be an exception. When I found out they were going to have ARCs of it at SDCC I knew I needed to get my hands on a copy - and I did! I even got to meet Naomi Novik and got it signed. I am very much looking forward to diving into this book and going back into worlds I have explored, and new ones. One of the stories is set in the world of her next novel.

  • Red Rising (FC) - I am still in shock I got this! This was a SDCC exclusive cover of Red Rising from years ago. They came out with 5 different covers if I'm not mistaken and have since become highly collectible. After receiving this one at SDCC this year, I now own 3 of the 5 covers. I am so happy to have this copy in my collection!

  • Thrawn Treason (Audiobook) - This is another one that threw me off. Back in 2019
