Wow. What a rush this year’s San Diego Comic Con was. From the offsites to the exhibit hall to the panels to the signings and more. As I normally do, I brought quite a few books to get signed (101 to be exact) and unfortunately did not get them all signed this year. This was mainly due to cancelations – and a couple mishaps on my part. Let's start with some of the Highlights and main aspects of SDCC. After that I want to talk a little bit about the publishers and authors. Specifically how they differed from years past and we need to talk about the cancellations and mishaps!
I'll have another blog post showcasing all the Offsite's I went to at SDCC as well as another post showing all the books I got at the convention, as well as the books I brought to get signed! Stay tuned as they will be up over the next couple weeks.
The Highlights
The Offsites this year were amazing! Not only were there so many but, in my opinion, they were even better than years past - at least compared to the last three years. I wish I could have visited more offsites than I did, but the ones I went to were awesome! I'll have a post up next week showcasing all the offsites I went to at SDCC this year.
The Panels are always so much fun. That said, I didn't get to attend as many as I would've liked to. I actually only attended two, the Tor books panel and the Apple TV+ Silo panel. Typically several of the publishers will have a panel showcasing their upcoming releases and then pass out ARC's at the end of the panel. This year only Tor books & Simon & Schuster did one. Unfortunately, I did not know S&S did one this year until the day after it happened. I did make it to the Tor panel and was disappointed to see they did not showcase any SciFi books. Most of them were fantasy, romance, and contemporary. The Silo panel was AMAZING! We not only got the release date for season two, November 15, 2024, we also got to watch a scene from season 2 episode 1 and it looks amazing! We were introduced to a new character, which if you've read the books you can probably guess who it was.
The Signings are always so abundant. I met dozens of authors and got over 50 books signed. This year I managed to clump the signings together instead of running everywhere. They take place at various booths as well as in the Sails Pavilion which is upstairs. So going back and forth all the time can get overwhelming. Yet, I still managed to meet so many authors & get books signed.
The Exhibit Hall always amazes me with how much various companies put into their booths each year. The DC booth is two floors tall with the top portion being a hang out area for talent. Doctor Who had a booth with a Glambot video where you can open the Tardis door. The Star Wars pavilion always has costumes from the recent shows on display. What I can't get over is just how much there is. It's so massive and this year I never even had a chance to walk the entire floor.
Stay tuned for the post about all the ARCs I received at SDCC, the cancellations of authors & publishers, as well as a post about the different Offsites I went to, because I have some THOUGHTS. I'll have them posted over the next couple weeks.
