What is the difference between New Canon & Legend Canon?

An easy way to tell the difference is when the book was published. Prior to 2014, it is most likely part of the 'Legend Canon'. Post 2014 it is likely considered 'New Canon' or, 'Disney Canon'. The long standing Legend Canon was cast aside when Disney purchased the Star Wars franchise. Disney wanted to start fresh, sort of speak. They did so by deeming the 'Legend Canon' as no longer canon, causing 160+ books to no longer exist in the Star Wars timeline. Since this happened, in 2014, there have been over 50 novels published apart of the 'New Canon'.

Though many still consider the Legend Canon to be Canon, it both is and isn't. Many books may not contradict something Disney has done, however it's easier to start with a clean slate. Regardless of what is, or isn't considered to be apart of the official canon timeline, all Star Wars books are worth a read!

If you are curious as to which specific books are considered 'New Canon', I will be posting a complete timeline soon! You can also check out the Star Wars Canon Challenge Discord group to join hundreds of others in reading all the 'New Canon' and discuss them all.
